Winger

Winger is a book about a rugby player. He is at a boarding school for kids who's parents are rich but the parents do not have time to deal with them. Ryan Dean (Winger) has been placed in the "troublesome" dorm rooms because of an incident with a teachers cellphone. His roommate is the biggest jerk on the rugby team. Ryan Dean is in love with his best friend, but his best friend treats him like a little kid. This book is super funny and has a few cartoons mixed in, which adds to it.

WARNING: This book is very inappropriate.

Foul Trouble - John Feinstein

This is a book about college recruiting in basketball. The two main characters, Danny and Terrell are both top college prospects. They are treated like kings. Everybody wants to just "help out," but really they are just trying to get a piece of the next great player. Agents, shoe companies, money managers, college recruiters and anybody you can imagine swarm around them. Even people who they think as friends are really just trying to get them to go to a certain college or wear their brand of shoe. Everybody is offering them large sums of money, gear and sometimes even cars or houses. Almost all of the buzzing people around Danny and Terrell are breaking a rule of some kind. Danny and Terrell seem to be living the dream, but they wouldn't say so themselves.

The Black Stallion - Walter Farley

Alec is just coming home after a great trip to see his uncle in India. He is going on a ship called the Drake to get back to South America, and from there to New York, where his family is. A week or two into the trip, a wild black stallion is loaded onto the ship. No one wants to go near the beast, except Alec. Every night he puts a lump of sugar on the horses window sill, and then walks away. The next night it is always gone. During a horrible storm, the Drake goes down. Alec and the horse are thrown off the boat. The horse, with his sharp instincts and powerful legs, starts swimming towards land. Alec suddenly remembers the rope tied to the horses neck, which was used to control it. He grabs the rope and is pulled along to shore with the horse. As their time on the island gets longer, an unlikely friendship forms between Alec and the giant horse. Eventually, they are at the point where Alec gets a ride around the island with the horse. This sparks Alec's imagination of the black being an amazing race horse in America. He could be spectacular if Alec could just get back to America...................

I would recommend this book to everybody but especially people who really like horses.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Mark Twain

This book is very light and fun, perfect for a light read.  Tom Sawyer is a 12 year-old boy with a mischievous and adventurous brain. He and his friends find themselves in many hilarious situations. One time he becomes a pirate for a week, another he starts witnesses a murder. Each story is different and can be read separately. This is recommended for everybody that wants an easy fun read!

A Few Seconds of Panic - Stefan Fatsis

This is a non-fiction book. Stefan is a 43 year old, 170 pound, 5'8" writer. He is not a freak athlete, and obviously not what you would call a giant. He wants to be an NFL player for the summer, so that he can write about it. He wants to experience the physical and emotional challenges of training camp, an event that every NFL player hates. Because of his stature, the only position he can play is kicker. He becomes a NFL-quality (almost) kicker, and experiences the 2006 summer as an NFL player with the Broncos. This book is a great combination of sports and good writing.

I would recommend this book to Noah and Andrew Pool.

The Wanderer - Sharon Creech

One of the reasons I really liked this book because it is from two views. This book is a about a journey over the ocean in a ship. One perspective is from a girl who knows a lot about ships but is very frustrated because all the boys with less knowledge aren't letting her do anything on the ship because they think she is weak and dumb. The other view is from a boy on the ship, who gets to help with things but always messes them up.

Escape - Paul Dowsell

This is a book about famous prison escapes. Each escape story can be read seperately. This book was a fascinating quick read. There are multiple kinds of escapes using anything from brute force to lock picking to disguises. It is very interesting to learn about the extent that the prisoners will go to to escape from the horrible places they life in.

I would really love to read a book following the life of a general manager of a fictional NFL team. It would go through multiple years of drafts and trades and contracts.

Penderwicks in Spring

This is a very good book about a family of 6 kids. They are struggling with money. It is told from the view of an 8 year old boy and an 11 year old girl, the 4 and 5th oldest in the group. Betsy, the girl, loves music. After an unexpected change of teacher in music class, the new teacher discovers her singing voice. To pay for the singing lessons, she starts her own dog walking business. Along the way she overhears something disturbing about herself, but doesn't tell anyone she actually heard it. She has to cope with this piece of information while keeping up with normal life, and that might just prove too much for her.

This week I am going to be reading Things Not Seen.
Remember to take the super bowl poll on the right!

She meets a family of three beekeeping sisters, who she think played a part in her mothers mysterious life. These sisters are like Mothers she never had, but she knows it's just a vacation away from home and her horrible dad, who could be around any corner. I really liked this book!!!

What If? - Randall Munroe

This book is extremely funny. It asks absurd questions and answers them with serious scientifically correct. The author also makes internet comics, so it has hilarious pictures/comics too. This book doesn't have a plot, so it is fun to just open to random parts of the book and read the question, and then repeat. It is a pretty quick read. The only downside is that it can get pretty complicated sometimes, so I skipped a part or 2. I also included this picture of the back cover because it is a good example of the book:
